GIPS — Geo Information Presentation Services

GIPS is a visualization tool that reads the Worst Case TrLim file generated by TARA and presents it as an interactive point-of-interconnection heat map. It is composed of three applications: Lite, Pro, and Desktop.

Requirements

A registered installation of TARA 2503.1 or greater, and the tara.dll shipped with GIPS v4.0.0 or later. See Requirements.

The GIPS workflow​

  1. Run the study in TARA. TARA generates the Worst Case TrLim file (WClusterTrLimSumJson.json) that GIPS reads.
  2. Load and customize in GIPS Desktop. Load one or more result files, merge or keep as separate scenarios, and configure grids, ranges, legend, logo, theme, methodology, data layers, and tour. Press F5 to test configuration changes.
  3. Save and deploy. Export the web files, configuration, data layers, and loaded scenarios — then hand the directory to your IT organization to post to the web or intranet.

New in v4.0​

  • A capacity surface at low zoom, interpolated from the loaded scenario, so a whole-territory view answers where there is headroom before the reader zooms in.
  • Data layers — your own point data, an interconnection queue first among them, imported from a CSV in GIPS Desktop and drawn beside the buses, constraints, and harmers.
  • An Aerial basemap and power infrastructure layers with a voltage color ramp, on a map now drawn by MapLibre GL from tiles PowerGEM serves.
  • Light, dark, and system themes, and a Methodology panel administrators write in Desktop.
  • A reorganized Settings dialog, and administrator control of the tour, the disclaimer, the legend titles, and every table's columns.
  • Administrator options, kept in admin.json and never exported — starting with where a locked-down installation downloads its map styles from.
  • In v4.0.2, the capacity surface's popup names the POI behind the colour and links to it. See Clicking the surface.
  • Smaller things that add up: rename and delete scenarios in Desktop, one click to clear every table filter, cluster bubbles that take their range's colour, a maximum zoom that GIPS Lite and Pro honour, and a desktop executable a third of its former size. The migration notes list them all.
